David graduatedwith a Master in Business Administration from Arizona State University at Tempe, AZ. After receiving his degree he continued taking several graduate level tax courses from ASU and Golden Gate University. After several years as a Tax Manager for a national accounting firm, he went into practice for himself.

David's experience is an example of the difference between 25 years of experience and one year of experience 25 times. While working for an international accounting firm David spent three tax seasons working, with progressive responsibility, exclusively on partnership tax returns. This experience prepared him to serve as the Phoenix office partnership specialist for a large national firm. David spent two tax seasons working with the tax trust officers of a large bank as the trust income tax returns and tax letters were prepared for hundreds of beneficiaries. While working in a retirement community, David obtained extensive experience in estate planning and estate tax returns as well as multi state tax returns as many clients continued to have business holdings or maintain residence outside of Arizona.

From a start up sandwich shop to the sale of businesses in the tens of millions, David's tax planning experience is broad and deep. David's breadth and depth of experience caused the Phoenix tax director of a national accounting firm to write that David's "technical tax skills should be considered excellent or better.”

David holds a Certified Public Accounting certificate from the State of Arizona. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and is a member of the Tax Division and the Personal Financial Planning Division of the AICPA.

To broaden his financial background, he has passed the exam for Certified Financial Planners and has earned the designation of Personal Financial Specialist from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.  He is also a Certified Legal Document Preparer in Arizona

His interests include community and professional events. He has been president of Surprise Grand Bell Rotary club and a board member of the Deer Valley Education Foundation and the Central Arizona Estate Planning Council. He has volunteered in Boy Scouts of America. He has a ham radio license and enjoys participating in occasional 5Ks, 10Ks, and Triathlons. Phoenix has been home for David and his wife Julie since 1980.

Meaningful Accounting is Less Taxing

Meaningful Accounting:

Have you ever seen the results of lab tests ordered by your doctor, only to see a bunch of numbers that meant nothing to you until your doctor explained them?

Have you ever looked at the financial statements for your business, only to see a bunch of numbers that you wish were more meaningful?

Just as a doctor can interpret the numbers from lab tests so they mean something or can explain what they say about your physical health and what can be done to improve your health, at David R. Andrews, CPA PLLC, your Phoenix, Arizona Accountant, we can bring increased meaning to the numbers from your financial records.

It is more than just the bottom line. It is how one financial number relates to another. It is how your numbers compare to others in the same industry, and it is about the trend of the numbers over time. As your Phoenix Accountant, we not only provide this information to you, we explain it, we provide a diagnosis of how your business is doing, and we provide a prescription of what needs to be done to maintain the financial health of your business. We want you to grow and prosper. We want your accounting to be meaningful!

Less Taxing:

When I was younger I had the thrill of making a basket just as time expired in a basketball tournament. The game went in to overtime and we eventually won. I get the same thrill when I get a win over the IRS. Because I have been well coached in tax, have a sound understanding of the fundamentals, and have worked with and learned from some brilliant tax practitioners. The thrill of finding ways to reduce tax is not rare.

Tax planning begins with asking questions, a lot of questions, then knowing the tax rules that can help your situation.

As your Phoenix Arizona CPA, we don't want you to pay one more dollar in tax than is required by law. We want you to enjoy the peace of mind that the way your return has been prepared will not raise any red flags with the IRS. We want your experience to be less taxing!

That is what is meant by:
